New version is out, 2.30 ... YAY!!!

Hi everyone,

Can't say how much I missed our discussions here.
Here is a new version, 2.30, built against the latest version of LibOpenMetaverse as of Oct/9/2010, and also (hopefully) fixed a bug when downloading big asset files (like animations or sounds).
I am sorry to say that this may be the last release of MyProxy. Everything should be working fine by now (bandwidth permitting), so I don't think there's anything else to be added.
I will still try to fix any bugs you guys may find, but I can't promise any more features.
The development of MyProxy just ceased, as the grid became so boring and useless that I can't even stand staying logged in for more than a couple minutes.
In fact I have even deleted and formatted my local OpenSIM server a few minutes ago.

This has been the best software development experience in my life. Not for the quality of the code, but for the fact that it has been really useful for all of you and for the feedback and support you all gave me.

YOU ARE A F#*$ING AWESOME BAND OF BROTHERS.

If you're into music and synths, please visit the other blog I just started at http://hardsynths.blogspot.com/

See you folks around.

Cheers,
The Borg.

ps.: download of 2.30 is at http://code.google.com/p/mynewproxy/

  3. Hi The Borg

Long time not seen, but glad to hear you're ok and the little borgs are taking over the world :-)

And well... yes, every journey has an end. I think most of us here have cooled down a lot about this so called 3D-web. Not only SL itself (which is nothing else than a sad parody of what it could have been), but also similar ones like OpenSim/OSGrid don't seem to really attract new people. A paradigm shift will be needed to boost all this, and it might go in a different direction than we think today.

Anyway, MyNewProxy was (and still is) a great idea and still meaningful for OpenSim based worlds. Maybe some developers can use the code base to add some whistles and bells, but even if not, your MyNewProxy will stay there as a little gem, an outstanding example of creative software that gave us lots of advantage and fun.

Will be certainly looking for your new site, even if i'm rather a music consumer (but i do own a Roland keyboard at least :-)

    All the best & cheers
    The Borg forever

  8. Hi April,

The AO is indeed buggy, but unfortunately there's no wasy way to make it work better. It is based on the same AO code that is on the LibOpenMetaverse client, and of course suffers from the same limitations. I.E. packet loss affects it a lot.
